Mixer was a Video game live streaming platform owned by Microsoft. The service officially launched on January 5, 2016 as Beam, but was renamed to Mixer in May 25, 2017.

History[edit | edit source]

On August 11, 2016 Beam was purchased by Microsoft for an unknown amount.[1]

On May 25, 2017 Microsoft announced the renaming of "Beam" to Mixer as the previous name could not be used globally.[2]

On July 22, 2020 Mixer was shut down by Microsoft, with Partners having been offered equal status with Facebook Gaming.

Sparks[3][edit | edit source]

Sparks are a site wide currency, you can earn this currency by streaming or watching other livestreams. Sparks can be redeemed to unlock perks such as creating teams and launching skills on a channel.

Embers[4][edit | edit source]

Embers are a site wide premium currency, usually purchased. Embers can be used to support Partnered streamers.

Twitch Poaching[edit | edit source]

Over 2019 Mixer secured contracts to stream exclusively on their platform with large Twitch streamers.
