Ewok is a professional Fortnite player. He is a partnered livestreamer who was previously on Mixer and is now on Twitch. He is also profoundly deaf and has come out as trans.

Biography

Ewok was born on September 18, 2005 in America. Ewok started to play Fortnite in Season 4, which began on May 1, 2018. As of March 2019, according to Fortnitetracker, he ranked among the top 25 in the world and top 6 in his home country, both results from Solo mode. He has logged over 370 wins.[1]

Ewok and his family are deaf, and his father was a sign language professor and educated people from his popular show called, "ASL That!" He has a twin sister - who is older - another sister, a brother and a dog.

On March 7th, 2019, popular streamer TimTheTatman hosted Ewok, prompting an emotional and understandably shocked response as thousands of Tim’s viewers began to watch his stream. The next day, Kurt Benkert, an American football quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons who is also a streamer, visited his stream. Following this, Mizkif came to support Ewok, leading to him receiving hundreds of subscriptions.[2] A couple of Team Solo Mid members like Chica, Wintrrz and Slappie showed their support of him and played with him; Twitch staff and Epic Games employees watch his stream.[3][4]

On April 23th, 2019, Ewok signed with an agency called Abrams Artists Agency. [5]

On May 8th, 2019, Ewok became a partner with Twitch. Ninja[6], Kurt Benkert, FaZe Megga, Hollywood star Jordan Fisher[7], and thousands of his followers joined in congratulating and celebrating him. The next day during a livestream, Ninja signed "hello" to him in American Sign Language.[8]

On May 20th, 2019, a popular internet news source for the Deaf community called the Daily Moth interviewed him for the first time, in an ASL-language video with subtitles. [9]

On May 25th, 2019, FaZe Apex posted a video to his 5 million subscribers on YouTube, describing how impressed he was with then-13-year-old Ewok's Fortnite skill.[10]

On June 4th, 2019, Ninja, DrLupo and Chap of Team Liquid joined Ewok to play Fortnite with Twitch's new squad mode feature.[11]

Career

The Fortnite Summer Block Party Celebrity Pro-Am, an event where Fortnite pros competed in teams with celebrities from outside the esports community, took place in June 2019. Ewok partnered with Kurt Benkert for the event, the pair forming one of 50 teams. [12]

Ewok and Benkert finished the Pro-Am out of the top 20 and were awarded $20,000 for charity, which they donated to the National Association of the Deaf's Youth Program.

During the show, live stream may be caught in the game showed Jordan Fisher and DrLupo as a team and Ewok took DrLupo out then chased Jordan down in half a minute length and took it out. This highlight gained his fame because Jordan won Creative Showdown just in a day before Pro-Am.[13] Soon two Fortnite commentators as Zeke and Sundown interviewed him using few American Sign Language signs and his interpreter at the stage before the Match 4 start. He also revealed his favorites in Fortnite and recent highlight explanation during the interview.[14] As July 2019, this interview may be seen on Twitch of a clip from Fortnite channel reached over 335,000 all-time views.[15][16][17]

A month later, he again appeared on Pro-Am event but new partner Jordan Fisher as celebrity himself became duo squad.[18] This event was a part of World Cup event taking in Queen, New York which is a burrow of New York City. After the event, Ewok and his partner finishes 25th place and received $20,000 again. A day after World Cup Pro-Am event and FaZe team welcoming Ewok to part of their team also the first girl historically.[19][20] Many of fans, girl gamers, Deaf community, FaZe team members and celebrities including Nyle DiMarco, a Deaf star who won America's Next Top Model and Dancing of the Stars shows, joining his big celebration.[21] Later, Ewok telling his fans that FaZe team now added a American Sign Language emoji meaning as "I Love You" on their Twitter account name to help the awareness for Deaf community.[22] In next day, his twitter reached 100,000 followers.[23][24]

On November 14, 2019, he was leaving Twitch for Mixer as well as received a partnership. On June 22, 2020, he announced will be leave Mixer following Mixer shutdown announcement in same day. His last stream in next day.

In October 2020, Ewok came out as trans and refers to himself as "he/him" and a "boy"[25]
